Songdriven Demos FAQs
  • What is Songdriven Demos?

    • Songdriven Demos is a streamlined, one-stop song demo service.

  • What can I expect from the process?

    • You'll upload a recorded version of your song (worktape) & lyrics, give us your production notes, and add some links for reference tracks for the producer. Make sure you've recorded it in the key and at the tempo you'd like us to create for your demo. You'll choose the type of demo you want, pay via Paypal or Square, and then your project will be off to one of our world-class producers. You'll receive an .mp3 of the completed demo, and if you're thrilled with it, you'll approve the song, and the producer will provide you with high quality .wav files that include the final mix, an instrumental version, and other options.

  • Why do I need a high quality demo? Isn't my worktape good enough to send to a publisher or an artist?

    • A high quality demo is the  best way to present a song to the industry. While some publishers can  “hear through” a worktape, a high quality, well produced demo will sound  competitive in the pitch room, show your song in a professional light, and not demand the listener to use their imagination to hear how it may sound as a finished product.

  • What kind of demo does my song need?

    • It depends! Whatever serves the song best! Some songs really need the elements that are commonly heard in the current commercial radio market. Those songs would benefit from a full demo. And some songs need a simple, stripped back, sparse  presentation, so as not to get in the way of things.

  • Who will the musicians and producers be that work on my track?

    • Songdriven Demos has an extensive network of world-class producers and musicians, including track programmers who really get the current vibe of the market, and veteran producers with extensive clientele lists.

  • Do I get to choose the specific people that do my demo?

    • We pride ourselves in the quality of our work. We have many happy clients who trust Songdriven Demos with their songs. Once you experience the efficient process of our interface and recording service, we hope you will be as excited as we are about this new platform.

  • Will I be able to sit in on the session, live or remotely, and give feedback while it's happening?

    • No. This may be a little  different from what you've experienced. Our model is set up to succeed on the front end. When you submit your song worktape, tempo, melody, key and clear reference tracks for the style of demo you want, one of our talented, experienced producers will create your song demo from those guidelines, and will serve the song in the best way possible. If you need a more hands-on, overseeing every moment type of experience, we can happily refer you to some excellent folks whose business is targeted to you. However, if you want to streamline your demo process and get the absolute most out of the experience without getting bogged down with the process, we can provide that turnkey session for you.

  • What do I get with my finished demo?

    • You will receive a high quality full track .wav file, and an .mp3 file, including an instrumental mix. You may also opt for our other available tracks, which could include: vocal only, tv tracks, alt tracks such as clean/explicit versions, stems and the multi-track session.

  • Can I request revisions to my demo?

    • We include up to two revisions as part of your package. However, please note that major changes to the tempo, key, or arrangement will constitute a new project,  as those often require our musicians to begin again from scratch. This includes male/female vocal changes, since the key signatures that are best for each type of voice might not be ideal for the other gender.

  • Can I get my money back?

    • Due to the subjective nature of music, and that we must pay our producers and musicians for their time regardless of the end product, there are NO REFUNDS. However, we  truly believe that the quality you will get with Songdriven Demos is unmatched elsewhere, and we will do our best to ensure that you are happy and satisfied, and that we have represented your song in the best  possible light.

  • What rights do I have to my demo recording?

    • We provide work for hire releases for all our demos, giving you ownership of the master.

  • Do I give up my songwriter rights or my publishing?

    • No. You fully own your song, and Songdriven Demos is not claiming any part of your song copyright.

  • Do I have to own the copyright to the song I'm recording? What if I want to record a cover song?

    • You will need to have  obtained all the necessary rights enabling you to record your song. You  will either need to own the relevant copyrights, or you will need to license them through an organization like Harry Fox.
